Care & Cleaning

Cleaning Recommendations

  • Blot up spills immediately before they penetrate the surface of the granite or quartz.
  • Clean stone surfaces regularly with stone cleaner. If you don’t have stone cleaner, warm soapy water with mild dish soap and a soft cloth will also work. ‘More Daily Stone and Quartz Cleaner’ is available online and at Heffner Stoneworks to purchase.
  • Quartz Stains
Fold a paper towel and gently rub stain with a with mild dish soap (Dawn is best) and water in a circular motion. Leave for a 2-4 minutes, then wipe away with a cloth
  • Granite/Marble Stains
There are different methods based on the type of stain. Acetone is safe to use on Granite/Marble Only and usually gets most stains or marks out. Pour on a paper towel or microfiber cloth and rub the surface with it. If the stain is still visible you can try one if the following two methods. Mix a cup of baking soda and 1 – 2 tablespoons of mild liquid dish soap (Dawn is best) with water to make a thick paste. Put it on the stain, cover with plastic wrap and let it sit overnight. Scrape away the mixture with a wooden utensil and rinse. If the stain is oil-based (grease, oil) use hydrogen peroxide in the paste instead of dish soap. Remember to test in an inconspicuous spot first.
  • Use acetone for Granite, and methyl hydrate or denatured alcohol, to remove ink or marker stains from Quartz. On light colored granite, use hydrogen peroxide on these stains. This also works for wine stains. As always, remember to test in an inconspicuous spot first.
  • Use coasters under all glasses, particularly those containing alcohol or citrus juices. Many common foods and drinks contain acids that will etch or dull the stone surface.
  • DO NOT place hot items directly on stone surface. Rapid temperature changes from hot to cold or vice versa can potentially crack your quartz counter.
  • Do not use products that contain lemon, citrus, vinegar or other acids on granite, quartz, marble or limestone. Do not use ammonia or any products containing ammonia. Strong detergents or corrosive liquids can dull the polished surface and should not be used.
  • Try not to drop heavy objects on your countertop. The impact could crack or chip your stone counter, and this damage is not under warranty.
  • Do not sit, stand, or lean on weaker or unsupported points in your countertop (seam areas, narrow area in front of sink or cooktop)
  • If a glue-like substance is stuck on the countertop, gently scrape it off with a single sided razor blade held on a 45- degree angle, then wipe clean with warm water and a soft cloth.

These are manufacturer suggestions only. Always test in an inconspicuous spot FIRST
